04 Mar Koh Mak: December 2013
Looking for a quiet and peaceful island for relaxing? Try Koh Mak in Trat province near Koh Kut.
During Christmas break in 2013, I got a chance to go to Koh Mak for the first time. I’ve never been to the beach in Trat province before and I doubt if it can be as nice as beaches in the south of Thailand.
How did I get there? My friend found “Boonsiri High-Speed Ferries” service while browsing google on how to get to Koh Mak. The service was really nice. We got a private car to pick us up from the gas station in Bangna. There were other 3 Thai women joining me and my friend
After a few hours (cannot remember how long it was), we arrived at Boonsiri office. People were really nice. If I remember it correctly, the owner is a Thai woman and Japanese man couple.
Once the boat is ready, the staff drove us to the pier. I didn’t take a photo of the boat, though. It was quite a big catamaran. Anyway, it took us around 6 hours to get to the island.
We decided to go on a trip in November and it was impossible to find a place to stay. We were looking for many places that still have a room available during Christmas/New Year period and my friend found this place on Koh Mak (that’s why we ended up here. haha). The place is called “Holiday Beach Resort”. I highly recommend this place because the owner were super nice! The food were great, perfect location for relaxing and not so far from the food area.
Yes, the place was really nice and quiet. All we did was sitting by the beach, read books and really relax. Okay! I’m going to share some of the sunset photos. Who can ignore sunset/sunrise photos when you’re on the beach, right?
If you’re bored of eating at the resort, you can walk to the food area. It is like a small walking street where you can find restaurants, bike rental shops or convenient store.
You can also borrow a bike from the resort to ride around the island. I didn’t find anything interesting on my bike trip. haha, If you enjoy nature, you will love it because there were lots of trees on everywhere. Walked along the beach, 2-3 mins from the resort. You’ll find this quiet area.
From the resort, you can take a boat trip to Koh Rayang Nok. I cannot remember how much it was though, but it wasn’t expensive. The Island is very close and I can see it from where I was staying.
Of course, I got to the island on Christmas and stayed until December the 29th. When I arrived the Koh Rayang Nok, I found a very cool Christmas tree on the beach. (see photo below). There is a restaurant on this island where you can find some food and drinks. I also met a really cute island dog, I guess he loves to swim! I always make friends with dogs everywhere I go in Thailand. lol
And then we’re back on Koh Mak!
I’m going to close with a photo of my favorite breakfast, banana pancake, scrambled eggs and toasts! Remember, if you have a few days off from work keep this island in your mind. I hope you will like it.
